Nathan_Ch.1_I

I think I am really going to enjoy this book, reading through the first chapter I have been thinking about all the things that are around me on a daily basis that have been designed by other people and the hundreds of hours of brainstorming , designing, and testing that were put into such a simple product as say a TV remote or the FOB for my car. For those of you who may not know what a FOB is, it is the little keychain that you can use to unlock your car, or if your extra fancy, activate you alarm or remote start your car. Its okay if you didn't know, I just found out too. My point is that something so small and seemingly insignificant still probably had unimaginable thought and work behind it. Anyway just something to mill over the next time you use your cell phone or mp3 player.

I agree with you that this is an interesting book. I also didn't know what an FOB was. Good information.

On one hand I feel sorry for the people that lived before we came up with all the technology we have today, but on the other hand, I think it has complicated our lives more than helped. None of our inventions should be taken for granted though because like you said, it took so much time and trials to make them.

Perhaps the most amusing of technological arms races were the console gaming wars of the mid 80s and early 90s. Angry Video Game Nerd explains it pretty well here:

First of all, thanks for the information on the FOB. Also, I agree with Ashley. Modern technology is somewhat a help and a henderance to our lives. Sometimes it's scarey how much we rely on technology.

One area that I think technology has only improved life is in medicine. Laparoscopic surgery, laser eye surgery, pacemakers, the list goes on and on of amazing medical technologies. I hope that new technology keeps emerging rapidly in the medical field.
