I was struck most by the idea of picking your battles, and not going for an full-scale overhaul when it's not necessary. It bothers me when companies redesign every aspect of a website, apparently just because they can. Rotten Tomatoes is a good example. Their old design wasn't all that attractive, but it got the job done, content-wise. They recently redesigned the site, and although some aspects are improved, a lot of other stuff just seems to be jumbled around for no good reason. Search bars are located in different places on different pages, some pages on the site require extra work to access, etc. It's just lame, and strikes me as a giant update just for the sake of looking new and cool, and that's not a very good mindset to have.

...but HEY, it's Web 2.0! It has rounded edges for content frames and buttons, with user-posted content full of mispellings and 12 year olds! Holy crap!
